Hi Grace,
Your right on finding what we think are grants for individuals BUT.....
And Lauri check it out again because with you and your deafness you do and probably qualify for the Vocational Rehabilitation. What the can do is open up a case for you,the individual. They will then get a job suited to you and the grant probably goes to the employer to hire you and work with you, guaranteing you income and monies to get adaptive devices, clothes and transportation, education, all free to you.
I know this as I was a Voc Rehab client from the age of 15 to 22.They paid for my college, assisted my parents with money during my surgeries, paid towards the medical etc.
Check with your local rehab office and best of luck to you.

I am confused. I clicked on that website, and the way I understand it, it's for benefits for people who are disabled. I am completely deaf in my left ear and do not have a disability. I have not applied for it. Because I am capable of working around it after all my years of being on this earth. I'd just like to figure out a way to get our cars fixed, a better bed that isn't going to fall when you get in it, a couch you can sit on, a washer that works and a dryer that works, clothes to wear to look for a job, and when I get that job clothes to wear that is consistant for that job. This website isn't for that....the one above that is.

I have looked at this site before. It is extremely rare to find a grant for an individual. You need to set up a non-profit organization in most of the grants or be a state agency or school or college or a business that works with the government already. I couldn't find any of the grants for individuals when I went there before. If you want a grant for a home, those are non existent. The money goes to the states or to non-profits. If anyone can find a grant for an individual to help with bills or buy a home on this site, I would love for them to show me where it is. the site is http://www.grants.gov/
